Vonn won big at the ESPY Awards

The ESPY Awards (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) took place last night. Lindsey Vonn won Female Athlete of the Year for the second time in a row. Not surprisingly after her great performance at the Olympics earlier this year. Sorenstam won the same award 2005-06. It was a big night for the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki won Male Athlete of the Year and Best NBA Player. Coach Rick Carlisle was named Best Coach. His team were also chosen as the best team.

Tim Thomas apparently had a great season and he won two awards, Best Championship Performance and Best NHL player. The Phillies Roy Halladay won the award for Best MLB player. Eages vs Giants was named Best Game of the Year, in a game where the Eagles scored 28 points in a short time to win 38-31. Aaron Rodgers and Serena Williams both won prices for their achievements.

Arizona Sheriff Arpaio introduces underwear to the public

You may call it bizarre, but the nowadays famous Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Manicopa County is at it again. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that the man who brought pink underwear to prison now sells clothes to the public. Arpaio is introducing a Spanish-language version of the shorts with a the imprint "Vamos Jose!" The original shorts for $15 apparently features a sheriff´s star. Sheriff Joe Arpaio introduced pink underwear in prison for inmates 15 years ago. The reason was to avoid theft.

I am not sure who needs these underwear. Is it really a need for it out there? Do you need em´?

Pineda to play All-Star game

The New Tribune reports that Michael Pineda, the 22-year old rookie starter from Seattle Mariners, will join other great baseball players for the All-Star game in Phoenix. He will replace Justin Verlander from the Detroit Tigers. The right-handed pitcher Pineda has struck out 113 batters in 113 innings for his Mariners. Both teammates Felix Hernandez and Brandon League will travel with him to the desert.

All-Star names from the American League includes Paul Konerko, Carlos Quentin, Derek Jeter and Jose Bautista. From the National Leauge we´ll see Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran, Roy Halladay and Lance Berkman.

The game will take place live from Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ, tomorrow at 8:05 PM ET on Fox.

Utbud av amerikanska sporttillbehör

Mycket riktigt, visst finns det baseball hitting tees. Jag tror dock inte att dom är överrepresenterade på t.ex. Stadium eller Intersport i Sverige. Överlag tycker jag att dom borde köpa in mer equipment till amerikanska sporter. Annars liknar det diskriminering. Kanske kommer den utrustning som köps in inte att sälja lika mycket som andra sporttillbehör, men bäst-före datumet är långt. Dessutom bör man uppmuntra annan internationell sport. Det tycker jag nästan är ett krav från en sportaffär. Nog om detta för nu, jag kommer säkert tillbaka till detta ämne och inlägg.

Sverige mot USA, fotbolls-VM

Om en liten stund spelar damerna i det Svenska landslaget mot det rutinerade USA i fotbolls-VM. Pia Sundhages amerikanskor kommer inte bli lätta att slå. Sverige ställer också upp med ett bra lag så det kan bli en spännande match. Vilket lag som än vinner så kommer det kännas som en vinst. Jag tror dock att USA kommer att gå segrande ur striden.

There is only one mrs Soprano

Today we learn that Edie Falco has her 48th birthday. She is a New Yorker, born in Brooklyn, NY. The great actress is most known for her role as mrs Soprano in the fantastic TV-series "The Sopranos". She returned to TV big time in "Nurse Jackie", where her character really made the viewers sure which nurse not to mess with, in a loving way. Even though Jackie Peyton was perfect for Edie, she will always be Carmela Soprano in my eyes. It is indeed hands down the best TV show to ever grace television. I´m not sure which actresses auditioned for her role but I can´t see any other than Edie Falco in that role. So, in a way to celebrate her acting skills, here is a few great Carmela Soprano quotes:

Carmela: You're putting me in a position where I'm feeling sorry for a whore who f**ks you?! You know what's even stranger - for a second I believed you.

Tony: (about a vasectomy) Well whatever is down here is God's creation. Isn't it a sin to undo the good work he's done?

Happy 4th of July

Min återkomst på den här bloggen sker oväntat på självaste Independence Day. Det var inte planerat, tro mig, men det passar verkligen utmärkt. Happy 4th of July everyone!

Cubs är i Washington för att möta the Nationals på historisk mark, och då menar jag inte Nationals Park. En fin dag med lätt molnighet, perfekt för baseboll. Vad som började med en del runs i början övergick sedermera till motsatsen. Nationals Roger Bernadina hade det svårt outfield och inte lättare at bat. Detsamma kan sägas om kollegan Matt Stairs som visade sig på styva linan. Maybe he should stick to hockey. Cubs hade det inte heller lätt alla gånger. Den annars så synlige Kosuke Fukudome var nästintill osynlig. Någon som verkligen inte hade en bra dag på jobbet var utan tvekan Kerry Wood. Stundtals hade han det otroligt svårt, inte i närheten av strikeouts. Några balls var ruskigt nära the opponent. Givetvis var the Nationals fans på plats för att skrika "Kerry, Kerry!". Stundtals kändes vissa Nationals-fans lite överförfriskade med tillrop. Med 4-4 i den tionde inningen klev Marcos Mateo on the mound, men det varade inte länge då Mateo utgick pga skada efter bara några pitches. Ersättare blev Carlos Marmol.Jason Werth stal tredje basen under den elfte inningen under Marmol. Bara någon minut senare fumlade Marmol och Werth sprang hem segern för Washington.

Nu hoppas vi givetvis på revansch imorgon. Go Cubs!
